Hey, I’m Bailey! I have been so fortunate to grow up with strong women in my life who have empowered me to be whoever and whatever I want to be. This is the lesson that encouraged me to choose an educational and career path that would help me to empower others.
Over the past six years I have worked with many different people as I completed two university degrees: a Bachelor of Arts in Community Studies with a Major in Psychology and a Bachelor of Social Work. I have worked with the Youth Peer Program, a Cape Breton afterschool program for at-risk youth, as a Program Assistant where I developed and implemented workshops to promote high self-esteem and positive life-skills. Recently, I worked as a Program Co-Coordinator at Newcomers Connect Program, a YWCA Halifax program that aims to help in the development of conversational English in newcomer women. Here I developed workshops not only to help with English, but also to empower women to discuss social issues and to be vocal members in their new communities.
One thing both programs had in common is that they were about people coming together to support each other. I am so excited to have the opportunity to join the Halifax Chapter of One Girl to continue joining together to support people in my community. As women and girls, we have much strength on our own, but when joined together we have even more!
